Friday Links

The Icemen come to town tonight after the Solar Bears snapped their four game win streak earlier this week. Obviously, this game is going to be exciting thanks to the Everblades current win streak. To hold you over until 7:30, here’s your weekly helping of links. Enjoy.

– Sometimes the weirdest Everblades things get put on eBay.

– Your Wikipedia hockey page for today: Professional Ice Hockey.

– You guys know I love hockey cakes. This one is pretty cute.

Buffalo Sabres Hockey Rink Cake

Random hockey trivia.

– OK, this is pretty awesome. Mostly because beer and hockey is a perfect combination.

– Your tweet of the week was easy to pick because… Ratchuk at forward is always fantastic news!

– Is it weird that I want to go to this?

– Kitty time!

The Blades take on the Wheeling Nailers  who currently sit in last place thanks to their 3-5-2 record over the last ten games. While the Blades sit in an OK position conference-wise, they could use every point possible to stay competitive in the ridiculously competitive South division.

– Not a bad jersey find on eBay.

– It wasn’t as hard as you think to pick the tweet of the week. The Wheeling jokes have been funny, but let’s be honest, that’s the lowest hanging fruit possible. Instead, I chose to go with Dan Milan reminding us of what we all wanted more than anything when we were kids.

twotw2-4– And since I’m not a horrible person, I’ll provide you with a link to buy those amazingly fantastic straws.

– I adore this hockey shirt. I recommend checking our their other shirts as well. they’re all pretty awesome.

– Have I shared these directions to make your own tabletop ice rink before? Because it’s just fantastic.

– Your Wikipedia hockey page for today: Summit Series.

– Someone loan me the money for this awesome coffee table (fun fact: coffee tables and cocktail tables are the same thing. Lear something new everyday, eh?)

– This big kitty reminds me of the time I woke up to a bobcat hanging out on my back porch. Living in the wilderness isn’t always awesome y’all.

After that little let-down in Greenville, I’m feeling a little blah about the Blades at the moment. It’s not quite Blades January losing streak blah, but it’s getting close.

– You know what’s not helping? The freaking Solar Bears signing another NHLer. Fun fact: an NHL grinder is an ECHL top liner.

– I checked Elite prospects to compare (just for fun), and decided to share the depression inducing numbers with you:

If I have to cry, you all have to cry with me

– In case you were wondering, those two games belong to Brayden Irwin. Congrats Slim.

– I think we all need some cake now.

Canadiens Hockey Cake [side view]

This shirt feels very appropriate now. It really is all Gary’s fault.

This isn’t hockey related at all, but I figured if cake and mocking t-shirts didn’t cheer you up, bubble wrap might just be the answer.

– The tweet of the week was a hard choice. So, I went with a hat-trick of awesome:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

– A person I can only assume is a giant idiot jerk looking to profit off of a jersey auctioned off for charity has put Mike Brennan’s Military Night jersey up on eBay. My list says it went for $500. Pay anything more than that guys, and you’re allowing someone to make a profit and get the tax write off.

I have to be honest, I’m still riding high from Wednesday’s Blades win. The guys managed to chase the third best goalie in the league at the moment and battled back every time the Jackals started to change momentum. It really was a thing of beauty. It has definitely made me pumped for tonight. Even sitting through the inevitable traffic hell that is the I-75 Daniels overpass right now is going to be worth it if they bring what they brought tonight. Until then, why night enjoy your weekly dose of links (that I almost forgot)?

– Another reason to be excited about tonight? The Blades are wearing the specialty military jerseys tonight. You may have noticed them at Wednesday’s game, and honestly, I really like them. They’re also offering special discounted tickets for veterans and active military tonight as well.

– Has anyone noticed the Blades haven’t given out a bobble head in a few seasons? I guess I have to content myself with wasting money on old Blades Bobbles on eBay. Like this one. WHAT COULD BE MORE AWESOME THAN A ROB ZEPP BOBBLE HEAD GUYS?!

– The winner of this week’s tweet of the week was hard to pick, but I had to go with this one:

– Every week it seems like another ECHL team signs a player with NHL experience. Meanwhile, we’re about an hour and a half from two NHL franchises and can’t get one guy willing to commute. No bueno.

– The league fined one of Elmira’s players for “violating the leagues exclusive equipment policy”,which I’ve never seen happen before and I was not aware could actually happen. I looked through the photos I took and I can’t figure out what was wrong, but I’m far from an expert on hockey equipment styles and brands.

– A scarf may not be useful here in South Florida for anything other than those three super cold (and by super cold I mean Floridan cold: 50°), but it would be pretty cool to get this scarf in Blades colors.

– Puck Daddy did their own post on John Curry’s temper Tantrum. I don’t care who you are, that’s still funny.

– The Blades may be out of town, but you can still get your hockey fix at Germain. Day two of the Crocodile Cup starts today at 3:30.

– A tiny part of me is upset that a jersey was used to make this bag, but the res of me is pumped at the idea of a jersey bag for every team.

– The tweet of the week was hard, but Leigh Salters blew the rest of the guys out of the water with this simple little tweet last night. I think the hash tags make it twenty times better.

– $250 is  a little more than I’d like to spend on a game worn jersey, but hey, maybe one of you is a Peter Reynolds fan, I don’t know.

– I know it’s not Friday, but I couldn’t resist sharing this: Steve McJannet is still playing and still being himself.

– Which reminds me, your Wikipedia hockey page for today: Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey.

I’m still a bit sad about Wednesdays loss, but I feel really good about tonight. And not just because we get free mustaches!

– Bob Ferguson was before my time, but here’s a great interview with him that talks about the early days of the Blades.

– You really can’t beat a jersey cake, can you?

<a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/redpath_sugar/6976128205/&#8221; title=”Hanan by Redpath Sugar, on Flickr”><img src=”http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7041/6976128205_6a803bc533.jpg&#8221; width=”333″ height=”500″ alt=”Hanan”></a>

– You know what’s insane? Charging $10 (plus $3.50 shipping and handling) for something most of us got for free last week.

– A story from the Naples Daily News on Corey Trivino, added without comment.

– This isn’t hockey related at all, but Mental_Floss has a quiz that asks you to name all 52 animated Disney Films. I managed 41. Can you do better?

– Your Wikipedia hockey page for today is “National Hockey Association

This thing is beyond awesome. What a great way to display a jersey or stick.

– I forgot to bring back the tweet of the week last week! It’s okay though, I’ve got a double dose of Tweet-tasticness!

– I found this neat little Everblades shirt.

– I found some easy directions for creating your own backyard hockey rink! Now I just have to wait for the coldest cold snap South Florida has ever seen. That’s totally going to happen, right?

– Your awesome hockey cake of the week:

– For whatever reason, I’m a huge sucker for vintage table top hockey games.

We really are almost there. Training camp opens up tonight and we only have to wait two more weeks for opening night. Does it get any better? As always, here’s your weekly dose of links to get you through the day.

– The News-Press is celebrating the Everblades 15th season by posting the top 15 Blades moments. It’s obvious which one is number 1, but I can’t wait to see the rest.

– The ECHL has been posting stories about the league’s coaches all week. Today’s was our very own Greg Poss.

– Yadda yadda yaddda, cool cake!

Toronto Maple Leafs Groom's Cake

– I’m always amazed at the creativity on Etsy, but this? It takes the cake.

– Why are Christmas jerseys always terrible? This Checkers Christmas jersey is certainly no  exception.

The end really is in sight. The Blades made their last roster announcements. Now, we wait for the AHL assignments, training camp, and opening night.- The Blades also announced their new radio home this week. I guess winning a league championships means you get to move from AM to FM. I, for one, am happy that I wont have to listen through static or have games preempted by high school football.

– I know every week I claim to have found the most awesome hockey cake ever, but this one really is.

Hockey Cake

– Your Wikipedia hockey page for today: Hockey Contracts

– There are some pretty interesting jerseys up on eBay right now. If you have the cash, may I suggest this game-worn Rob Zepp? I’m assuming it’s from his last season with the Blades in 04-05, because that was the only year out of his four with the Blades that they wore that style (fun fact: that’s the first redesign of the Blades jerseys, the next redesign led to that horrid crossed tails logo).

– Bolt Prospects have been reviewing the minor pro roster in Syracuse, and by extension here in Estero.Best of all, they made some predictions about where everyone is going to land. Here are the links for goaltenders, defensemen, and wingers.

– This is quite possibly the coolest thing ever.

– And, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… kitty time!

To help you end another week of what has been an impossibly long off season, I give you… links!- The good news? Trevor Bruess and Brayden Irwin are returning to the Blades.

– If you feel like dropping $200 on a Blades helmet, here you go.

– Sometimes, you don’t need elaborate cake decorating techniques to  make a fantastic hockey cake. This is a perfect example:

– Third String Goalie marks the one year anniversary of the Lokomotive crash.

– Did I really find a company that makes furniture out of hockey sticks? Yes I did.

Is this the greatest thing you could possibly cover your overpriced smartphone in? Yes it is.
